First 5 California provides the Kit for New Parents to all parents of babies in California. You should receive a kit from your obstetrician in your last trimester of pregnancy. Once your baby is born, you have access to wonderful support and assistance through the Welcome Every Baby Newborn Home Visiting Program. First 5 Santa Barbara County funds this program that is available to all parents of newborns throughout the county. The program is available to you during your baby’s first 9 months. Welcome Every Baby provides breastfeeding assistance, information on caring for your newborn, post-partum depression support and help with questions and concerns that you may have. Text4Baby
Pregnant women and new mothers will be able to get health information delivered regularly to their mobile phones by text message at no charge under an innovative public service program being launched today by a coalition of mobile phone service providers, health professionals, and Federal, State, and Local agencies.
The new program, called text4baby, is a free mobile information service that provides timely health information to women from early pregnancy through their babies’ first year. The service sends important health tips that are timed to the mother’s stage of pregnancy or the baby’s age.
To sign up for the service in English, text BABY to 511411 (or BEBE for Spanish) mothers who sign up will receive three free SMS text messages each week timed to their due date or baby’s date of birth.
